My least favorite and most important topic to get right! Everyone has different tolerances with different foods.
Since I was getting sick with every.single.thing I ate, I had to start from scratch. I ordered a food sensitivity, cellular deficiency, hormone test to see what the heck was wrong with me. I legit had very few green, maybe 10 things (no inflammation, good to eat) foods. Most were yellow (moderate inflammation) and red (avoid). So, I did a complete food elimination process which is explained on the Home page toward the bottom.
I had to build up strength to handle many things because they'd either go right through me, bloat me up like a jellyfish or give me pain like someone stabbing me in the gut.
I had my gall bladder out after delivering my second child. So, I am in the minority where I can't process foods the same as other people with that organ. Especially, heavy, fatty or fibrous foods that take a long time to digest. I was given an IBS clinical diagnosis after many tests were done.
With that said, I'm still going to give you all the info and treatments my doctor wanted me to try. They just don't all work for me but might work for you which is why I include everything and make notes regarding possible IBS issues. I have a friend that is sensitive to oxylate and pectin foods which also affects me. So, the yellow highlighted foods might be foods you ease into or have smaller portions.
*Gut Health/Microbiome - If your body can tolerate these foods it will help your microbiome. Eat a wide range of fiber rich fruit, veggies, whole grains, nuts, seeds, fermented foods and incorporate prebiotics - ITF(Inulin-type fructans), rest, fluids, probiotics, pineapple, kiwi, figs-protease, apple cider vinegar, whole grains to make xylanese
- Homemade Bone Broth: you can find instapot recipes online. You can drink this morning and night even while your body is in autophagy mode because it has so many healing properties. It has to be homemade. Store bought will not have the strength you need in the homemade version.
- Hydration: pinch of Celtic sea salt with every glass of water.
- Microgreens: you can grow your own, buy at the store or drink juiced ones. All are good for your gut.
- Coconut Oil: 1-2 Tbsp daily will help heal your gut.
- Intermittent fasting: The goal is to rest digestive processes allowing the body to perform autophagy and detoxification--to starve the bad cells and regenerate new, healthy ones.
- My doctor wanted me to eat 6 hours and fast 18, drinking a lot of homemade bone broth, eating as many omega 3 eggs as possible, eating healthy, fatty, dark poultry meats. (This diet doesn't work for me so had to change it up so I could digest and eat food, sigh.)
- Strong pre-probiotics high in acidophilus and bifidophilus. My favorite brands are Silver Fern or Garden of Life.
- I still struggle with eating/drinking some of these below but hope they help you. https://goodlfe.com/ also recommend:
- Probiotic yogurt
- kimchi
- sauerkraut (avoid w/IBS)
- miso (soy based)
- kefir
- sourdough bread
- almonds (high oxylate)
- olive oil
- kombucha
- peas in small amounts
- brussel sprouts or bananas (avoid w/IBS)
- roquefort cheese
- garlic
- ginger
Food has been my nemesis so if you have any issues or questions, please reach out. I might have an answer or suggestion. Gut Health is Brain Health. They go hand in hand so it's really important to get it right!!
